Dr. Heather Smith, DVM, CVA

Across the Bridge Solace Center is the brick and mortar counterpart to Dr. Heather Smith’s mobile end-of-life practice, Full Circle Veterinary Care.

Dr. Smith wanted to create a space to help support pet families when they are faced with having to say goodbye to their pets. While it is always difficult, giving your pet the gift of a peaceful passing can also be beautiful. Across the Bridge is a place where pet families can feel supported in their grief, but also the celebration of their pet’s life, surrounded by people who truly understand how deep and profound the human animal bond is.

Water cremation, or Aquamation, an environmentally friendly alternative to flame cremation (see section below for more information), will also take place at the center.

What is Aquamation?

Aquamation, or water cremation, is an environmentally friendly process that bathes your pet’s remains in water and alkaline salts, gently reducing them to bone. This takes place within a special machine and takes approximately 24 hours to complete. The bone that remains is then dried and crushed to ash. The water remaining afterward is sterile and able to re-enter the city water system safely. Aquamation preserves approximately 20% more bone ash than flame cremation and ashes are an off white color rather than grey.
